Latisse is a unique, FDA approved medspa treatment to enhance the growth and thickness of eye lashes. During the initial consultation, the treatment provider will educate the patient about how to apply Latisse, and how effective and long-lasting the results are likely to be.
The patient should carefully follow the instructions for Latisse application and ideally complete the full course of treatment for maximum results. Motykie Medical Spa, led by wonderful, kind, and board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Gary Motykie, provides Latisse treatment to patients in Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Los Angeles, and surrounding locations across the landscape.
Sustainability of Latisse Results
Patients should know that Latisse is not a permanent solution for improved eye lashes, but it can last for a considerable amount of time. While the most sustainable results will be achieved if the patient consistently uses Latisse as directed by the medspa treatment provider, some patients only use it regularly for one or two months till they see the desired results. Thereafter, they may cut back to every third day or thrice a week to maintain the results.
However, for a majority of patients, the optimal growth of eye lashes will occur at 16 weeks, although the longer lashes can be noticed in about four weeks after the treatment begins. The lashes will grow gradually over time. In many cases, Latisse works almost exactly the way the treatment provider has anticipated and as shown in the Latisse clinical studies.
Results of Clinical Study
To study the longevity and efficacy of Latisse results, a clinical study was conducted at 16 sites across the country and included 278 people. Throughout the course of the 16-week treatment period, each participant was photographed and evaluated at four-week intervals (week 0 to week 16).
This allowed the researchers to record any differences in their overall lash prominence, including length, thickness and darkness. At the end of the 16-week treatment period, the results showed that Latisse was effective for 107 out of 137, or 78 percent of the participants. On the other hand, only 26 out of 141, or 18 percent in the placebo group (which did not receive Latisse) experienced similar results.
The group of patients treated with Latisse in the clinical study specifically experienced:
- 25 percent increase in the length of lashes (versus two percent for the placebo group)
- 106 percent increase in lash thickness or fullness (versus 12 percent for the placebo group)
- 18 percent increase in lash darkness (versus three percent for the placebo group)
Longevity Factors
Longevity of Latisse results can sometimes vary between patients depending on the thickness of the original eye lashes. Another vital factor that will impact longevity is how diligently the patient has followed the treatment directions. One of the common mistakes patients make with Latisse is not using the intended applicator. While a variety of eyelash brushes are available in a cosmetics store, the patient should use the prescribed applicator.
